Orthodontic emergencies are uncommon, but we're here to help if something doesn't feel right during treatment.

Most orthodontic problems aren't true emergencies and can be handled temporarily at home until you're able to visit our office. If you experience a loose bracket, broken wire, damaged appliance, or unusual discomfort, contact Scheele Orthodontics so our team can determine the best next step.
Please let us know what happened and which part of your braces or appliance is affected. We'll help determine whether you need to come into the office.
If a bracket or band becomes loose, leave it in place if possible and contact our office for instructions. Avoid foods that could cause further damage.
If a wire is irritating your cheek or gums, orthodontic wax can often provide temporary relief. Contact us if the irritation continues or the wire has become significantly displaced.
Some tenderness is normal after braces are placed or adjusted. Eating softer foods and rinsing with warm salt water may help while your mouth adjusts.
If you lose or damage an aligner, retainer, or other orthodontic appliance, contact our office rather than waiting until your next scheduled visit.

Severe facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, significant swelling, or a knocked-out or badly injured tooth may require immediate attention from your dentist or an appropriate emergency medical provider.
For orthodontic concerns, contact Scheele Orthodontics and we'll help you determine what to do next.
